Gas Fitter Macquarie Hills

Macquarie Hills Plumbing Co is the gas fitter team for Macquarie Hills and the streets beside it. Cooktops, heaters, BBQs, pool heaters and gas leaks are all licensed work, quoted up front and certified when finished. Ring (02) 4093 0558 and a gas fitter arrives with the detectors and fittings on the truck.

The same Macquarie Hills Plumbing Co crew that clears your drains and swaps your hot water holds the gas licence too, so a gas job never needs a second company.

What Can a Gas Fitter Do?

Every pipe and fitting downstream of the gas meter is ours to handle. That covers:

  • New gas lines, and extensions of old ones to a fresh appliance spot
  • Connecting and certifying cooktops, ovens, heaters, BBQs and pool heaters
  • Finding leaks with a gas detector and repairing the line or fitting at fault
  • Pressure-testing pipework and issuing the certification a finished job needs

The meter itself, and any main out in the street, sit with the gas network. Everything on your side of it is gas fitter's work, and that is the work we take.

How Do We Run a Gas Job?

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4093 0558 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Test, trace, certify

Pressure goes on the line first, the gas detector finds any leak, the fault is repaired and the certificate is written up for your records.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

How We Price Gas Work

Gas pipe is mostly hidden, so the unseen part is priced before you agree. The figure rests on:

  • The distance a new line travels between your meter and the appliance
  • How the line gets there: an under-floor crawl or a benched hillside block adds reach time
  • The appliance itself: connecting a cooktop is quicker than piping a pool heater with its own supply
  • Night or weekend attendance, which is dearer

Gas Heating on the Upper Slopes

Winter on the upper slopes of Munibung Hill is a gas heater's hardest shift

Homes near the top of the hill sit open to the breeze and the elevated nights turn chilly, so heaters and the lines feeding them run through long evenings in the colder months.

The flame shows what is wrong

Lazy yellow flames, a pilot light that keeps dropping out or a unit that cuts out mid-evening point to a fault in the supply or the connection, and either is priced before we start. The houses here are largely owner-occupied brick-veneer family homes from the 1960s to the 1980s, and the gas pipe inside them dates from the same build.

When the Gas Network Comes First

When we're not the right call: if the smell is strongest around the meter box or out on the footpath, the network operator's emergency number is the first call, since that pipe is theirs. A bigger meter for a new appliance is arranged through your gas retailer before we connect anything to it.

Gas Fitting Questions From the Hill

Does connecting a new cooktop need a gas licence?

Yes. Gas work is licence-only work: the connection, the line and the sign-off all sit with licensed gas fitters. A retailer's delivery crew cannot certify it, and a connection without a compliance certificate should never be lit.

What should I do if I can smell gas at home?

Leave lights and switches as they are, get everyone out of the house and open doors on the way if it is safe. If the smell is outside by the meter or the street, report it to the network operator first. Once they have made it safe, we find and repair the fault in your own pipework.

Can you swap my electric hot water system over to gas?

Yes. We run the gas line, fit a gas storage tank or an instantaneous unit and certify the connection, all on one quote. The hot water page weighs up each fuel for a hillside home.

Can you move a gas heater point to another room?

Yes. Running a line to a new heater position is ordinary gas fitting, and the extension is pressure-tested before the heater is lit. Where the pipe has to travel under the floor of a benched block, the quote allows for that extra reach.
